Darryl’s love for motorsports started at 3, when he can’t get enough of racing toy cars and remote control formula cars. But it was after watching the inaugural Singapore F1 Grand Prix at Marina Bay that made him decide to make that passion a reality. By June 2009, introduced by his grand uncle, Darryl tried go-karting for the first time and the rest, as they say, is history. He never looked back since.

Q. What do you like about kart-racing?
Darryl: The excitement of a high-speed chase and the adrenaline that comes with competing against other drivers on track.
Q. What makes you a winner?
I am a very determined person. If I am not good at something, I will practice and practice until I make it perfect. I learnt from my mistakes everytime I did not get into podium. Even until now, I am still learning and learning from my mistake.
Q. You have joined a new team in Kartmaster Drakar Racing team. Do you feel you have something to prove to the rest of the boys?
I want to prove that I can compete with the rest of the boys. After coming under the coaching of Roland Chong, I have improved tremendously over the past year.
Q. How are you preparing yourself for this new season?
I have been practicing a lot on track and preparing my mental approach during races.
Q. What’s the next step for you?
Like many of my peers, I have dreams to one day race in Formula cars. Before I can achieve that, I will need to strengthen my foundation in karting and I want to make a big impact in this year’s Asian Karting Open Championship.
